The Engineering & Design Department is one of the most critical components of a high end architectural woodworking company. If a company is incapable of presenting an item in a drawing, then it is likely that they are incapable of fabricating that item…at least with any surety as to the result. Architects and Designers know all too well how important shop drawings are to the end result of any element of a project. Our engineering and design department has been in the making since 1975 and unequivocally reigns supreme. We can draw it in house precisely and fabricate it in house precisely.

Our team of Project Managers is a highly skilled and copiously experienced group of stairway and millwork designers. What sets them apart is their background. Every team member is or has been hand-picked from the company’s production floor. Successful completion of CAD schooling is a requirement for the promotion to effectuate. The result is adept CAD Draftsman that are responsible for producing the necessary plan, elevation, section and detail drawings for every project that is assigned to him. It doesn’t get any better than that. There is no loss of detail that can easily occur when the artist is attempting to convey his thoughts and ideas to a draftsperson. Nor are any details overlooked. While one is drawing millwork, he is actually fabricating the assembly piece by piece and detailing the exact joinery method that is to be utilized by the fabrication team.

Many of the individual elements that make up our assemblies can only be fabricated proficiently from full scale templates of the element. Not a problem here. We utilize plotters spooled with hundred foot long rolls of paper that is five feet wide. Accordingly, we can and very often do plot irregularly shaped stairways full scale and physically test the design within its prepared space. Both structural and ornamental metal elements also require very precise full scale plots. So do many custom rail fittings.

We invite architects and designers to call upon us as the need arises. Sometimes, difficult stairways, or stairways in general might consume an architect’s resources which he can better spend in other areas of the project. For us, working through any stairway is second nature. There have been many instances where an architectural firm has commissioned us to develop and detail the stairways for a project that are then inserted into their firm’s project plans. Spiral stairway flights can be tricky, particularly for those who only occasionally have cause to design one into a project.
